The Shammy Picks: Rehab
Let the meltdown begin.
The Shammy had one of his worse weeks to date. A great 4-1 start led to an 0-7 finish and a hole that looks to massive to crawl out of. So I’m checking myself into Vegas spread rehab. I’m going to go back to the basics and with the help of all of you, I’m going to try to at least have one more respectable week before our College Bowl Blitz, where we will pick every game with multiple points. We will explain it a little more in a few weeks, but for now here is what happened to us last week.
Boise St. (-34.5) @ Idaho Win. BSU tried to give it away at the end, but held on to the 38 point win.
Iowa @ Northwestern (+10.5) Win. And outright win, the highlight of a bad week
Kansas St. (+13) @ Missouri Win. Still lost, but covered by a few
Utah (-5.5) @ Norte Dame Loss. This was horrible. Utah is breaking down worse than me.
Georgia @ Auburn (-8.5) Win. How they pulled this one out is beyond me.
Virginia Tech @ UNC (+4) Loss. UNC just didn’t have enough offense for the Hokies.
Kansas @ Nebraska (-35) Loss. 20 points at home!! Really?!?!
Texas A&M @ Baylor (+3) Loss. Shut out in the second half.
South Carolina @ Florida (-6.5) Loss. Did not even show up at home in this one.
Oregon (-19.5) @ Cal Loss. Of all weeks to look human.
Stanford (-5) @ Arizona State Loss. Barely won this game and missed the spread by 1.
USC @ Arizona (-4) Loss. I was pulling for them to make it to the Rose bowl, but now they are just part of the mediocre PAC-10.
Last Week: 4-8 (33.3% ACC, 63.6% ROI)
Overall: 49-61-4 (44.7% ACC, 85.6% ROI)
Well let’s begin the healing process with this weeks picks
Fresno State @ Boise State (-30.5); Friday, 9PM
I know Fresno State’s mantra is “Anywhere, Anytime”, but Boise State new mantra is “Any spread, Every time”. Shammy sez: BSU
Purdue @ Michigan State (-19.5); Saturday noon
Purdue has had a forgettable season, much like The Shammy’s and Michigan St is still playing for a Big Ten title and a BCS bid. A three touchdown win will keep them in pretty good shape. Shammy sez: Sparty
Wisconsin @ Michigan (+4.5); Saturday noon
Just because they scored 83 points last week, doesn’t mean they will do it this week. And one of the first rules of Vegas betting is the big week let down. The Badgers are on the road against a team that can put points on the board. Shammy sez: Michigan
Troy @ South Carolina (-22); Saturday noon
Why the SEC plays horrible non-conference games at the end of the year I don’t understand. USC has wrapped up the SEC East, but would like to keep their good bowl game status in tact with at least a 3 touchdown win against a team that lost to FIU last week at home. Shammy sez: South Carolina
Ole Miss (+16) @ LSU; Saturday 3pm
Another one of those games where I think the home team will cruise, but covering will be an issue. Ole Miss is not totally inept on offense and if LSU wants to play a defensive game in the 20s, to think they will keep them out of the endzone is not prudent. Shammy sez: Rebels
Virginia Tech (-3) @ Miami; Saturday 3pm
The Hokies can wrap up the Coastal with a win and don’t want it to come to the last game of the year against Virginia (like they are really worried). Miami will lead early, but look for the Hokies to come back and win big. Shammy sez: VT.
Ohio State @ Iowa (+3); Saturday 3pm
Again most people forget that Iowa can put up big numbers, especially at home. I have been circling this game all year as a OSU loss, and I will keep it that way. Shammy sez: Iowa.
Arkansas (-3) @ Miss St.; Saturday 7pm
If Arkansas is going to win this game, they will win big. If they lose, it will be by even more. So I’ll go with the big win. Shammy sez: Arkansas
Florida State (-4) @ Maryland; Saturday 8pm
I am still not convinced that Maryland is an elite team and have yet to beat anyone that is truly great, or even good. Look for Ponder or Manuel to take over. Shammy sez: FSU.
Oklahoma @ Baylor (+7.5); Saturday 8pm
I think that the enamor is gone with Baylor, but OU might be looking past this game to the OSU game in two weeks, which is a bad thing to don on the road. Again, OU might win, but not cover. Shammy sez: Baylor.
Nebraska (-3) @ Texas A&M; Saturday 8pm
Martinez. That’s all. Shammy sez: Nebraska.
