Vegas, Baby, Vegas!!

We are 48 hours into the latest coach search and we’re feeling a little lucky over here at Lambeth Field.  So we are taking our winnings from betting on UVa spreads and heading to Vegas and laying it all on who the next UVa coach will be.  So in the spirit of Swingers, we will look at some of the candidates for the job.
Mike London     Odds: 10 to 9      Vince Vaughn says:  “You’re so money, you don’t even know it!”
He’s the odds on favorite.  The sure thing.  ESPN says their sources point to London when Richmond finishes their I-AA run.  Even TMZ stopped showing Elin beating Tiger Woods to break this story today.  He already has the Virginia ties and can prove he can win as a head coach, just not at a Division I-A level school.  Everyone started somewhere.
Jim Grobe           Odds: 5 to 1        Vince Vaughn says:  “This is the guy behind the guy”
This is the new number 2 guy after TCU coach Gary Patterson  signs a new contract extension.  Grobe is a proven winner at an academic school.  The only downside is he is too much like Groh.  Also, the two great classes he brought in are leaving school soon, and the effects of attrition are starting to show.
Al Golden           Odds: 20 to 1      Vince Vaughn says:  “You’re a big bear with claws and with fangs”
Al is a very safe choice (that’s what we said last time).  He has turned around a Temple program that was dead on arrival.  He’s the big man on campus up there and it will take a great offer to get him out of that program.
Troy Calhoun     Odds: 50 to 1      John Favreau says:  “You know what, maybe I’ll wait three weeks to call.”
The Air Force coach would be a decent choice; winning at an academy is hard enough and he puts out very consistent teams.  But I don’t know if the Virginia faithful is ready for the triple option yet.  We should wait a little while on this phone call.
Charlie Strong   Odds: 150 to 1 Ron Livingston says:  “You don’t look at the things you have, you only look at what you don’t have.”
He’s been lobbying for a head coaching job for a couple of years now and UVa would welcome someone with a decent pedigree as Strong.  The only problem is he is on the verge of winning his second national championship and waiting a year could only increase his stock.
Chris Peterson Odds: 500 to 1 Ron Livingston says:  “They went with someone with more theme park experience.”
No doubting that he has continued to do and amazing job where Dan Hawkins left off at Boise State.  But the Broncos are to college football what Gonzaga is to college basketball, already a decent recruiting base.  Plus he really didn’t like working out east when he was in Pittsburgh.  I think UVa will go with someone a liitle more interested in moving (or staying) on the East Coast.
Phillip Fulmer   1,000,000 to 1    John Favreau says:  “Hi, uh, Nikki, this is Mike. I met you at the, um, at the Dresden tonight. I just called to say that I had a great time... and you should call me tomorrow, or in two days, whatever”
Ya, it’s not going to happen, even though the Fulmer camp has been lobbying for the past year.  UVa needs to move in a new direction and we just got rid of a coach who disappointed alumni, we don’t need another one.
